Chapter four

I did the salt and ice challenge almost a week ago....and I still have the marks. Never again XD. Anyway here is the next chapter in me and Mel's story. Kind of a weird ending to a chapter, but hey. Don't hate!! XD
Chapter 4

I woke to the blinding sun, glaring into my eyes. I turned over onto my side. That’s not much better than waking up to cat butt in my face.   I yawned and stood up stretching. As I looked around I saw that Solar was not in my room. I started to worry, I was kind of a jerk to him last night. I rushed around looking for him. As I came into the living room,I saw that he was still here. Sleeping, sleeping on Mel’s face. I laughed a little and walked into the kitchen. I started to look around for something for all of us to eat, but there was not much. So I went into my secret cabinet and grabbed thirty dollars out of the jar. I walked past Mel, and I could not help laughing again. I stepped out of the door with the picture of Solar sleeping on her face. I was walking down the road to the Grab-and-go. As I started to walk towards it I started thinking. Why does he do this. There is no point to keeping us in here. If I REALLY wanted to leave I could. But where would I go? How would I live? I shook my head, trying to rid my mind of such thoughts. I walked into the cold store and looked around. There was nobody in it. Just the employees walking around stocking the shelves. I grabbed a basket and began to fill it like a zombie. I couldn’t stop thinking about what Melanie said last night. What could she be planning? Once I was done I quickly went home. When I walked in I saw Solar on the couch, but Mel was no where.
“Mel?” I called
She’s on the roof. She woke up, yelled at me. Then she wouldn’t stop walking around.” Solar said
I place the groceries on the counter and walked to the backyard, and pulled out the ladder. Once I climbed to the top I saw Mel laying down, looking peaceful, yet delicate. It reminded me of the day we met. I slowly sat down next to her.
“What are you thinking about?” I asked softly.
“I was wondering what I was like before I was brought here. Where did I even come from? Then I was  thinking about the plan.”
“So you gonna tell me about this plan?”I asked trying to ignore her first thoughts. Mainly because it never leaves my mind, this great mystery she is.
“We’re gonna leave this place.”
“Leave? Like go over the wall?”
Melanie simply nodded “Two misfits discovering the world. If you don’t want to come that’s fine, but I can’t spend another day here. Each day is like a battle that I keep losing. For once I want to do something that I am not forced to do. So are you coming?”
I thought for a second. I can’t let her go on her own. Plus we know nothing that’s beyond the walls. It’s obvious that there are normal people, living normal lives...but it can't be that simple. Headmaster had to have a reason to build the wall, right?
“When are you planning to leave?” I asked
“As soon as possible...I  was planning to see if I can go to my house when he’s not there to get some of my stuff.”
I nodded. “Well I went out and got some stuff to eat. I am not gonna let you starve so come on” I said helping her up.
“I don’t like that cat anymore...he sat on my face.”
I chuckled. Maybe escaping with her won’t be so bad.
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
For the rest of the day Melanie was pretty quiet.
“Why is she so quiet?” Solar asked
“I’m not sure...She’s probably thinking of how this is all gonna work out.” I whispered back.
“Are you really gonna go with her?”
“I think you mean we. If I go you're coming to!”
“So you’re not going?”
“I didn’t say that!”
“You said if, though…”
I looked at Solar “Don’t argue with me!”
“Fine, fine... Hey look she’s leaving!!”
I looked up to see Melanie walking out the door. I ran towards her and grabbed her wrist.
“Where are you going?”
“Gonna get some stuff at my house. I am not leaving without SOME of my stuff.” She said tugging for me to let go.
“Than I am coming with you.”
Melanie rolled her eyes. “No you are not! I can handle myself on this. I’ll be as sly as a cat” She said poking my side, running off.
With all my willpower I forced myself not to follow her.
“I said it before. That girl is just trouble”
*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
“It's been thirty minutes, she should be here by now!” I said pacing around the living room.”
Maybe I should go, and see if she's still there! No, she may get mad at me. She said she'll be okay. Yet, it's the headmaster we're talking about! It makes me wonder what he did before that people fear him. I always asked and I was never given an answer or they will say “We should not speak of him!” He seems like a nice guy... Even though he doesn't like me, but I always saw how he was with Melanie. Aren't all parents just a little overprotective? Then again what am I suppose to know? My parents were never there for me.
Suddenly I heard a thump at the front door. When I opened it no one was there.
“Hey look! It's a panda!” Solar said
When I looked down I say the little black and white bear. Mel?
The panda was tugging onto a bag. She was okay, yet why was she a panda? Than I saw it. On the right side of Mel's panda body, she was bleeding. I quickly picked her bag and threw it on the counter. Than I carried her tiny body into the bathroom. I put her in the sink to wash some of the blood away. I could see the water was causing some pain to her.
“How long ago were you transformed? What happened? Did he do this to you?” I said angrily.
“I-it's been a-a-about ten minutes.” She struggled to say.
Ten minutes? She should transform back any moment now. What do I do? I began to panic! I grabbed her small body and wrapped her in a blanket. Seconds later she transformed into a human again. Her body was covered by the blanket.
“Let me get you some clothes, don't move!” I said placing her onto the bathroom counter. As I left Mel on the counter, and ran to my room and grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a shirt that would fit her. As I came into the bathroom she was sitting on side of the tub with the blanket wrapped around her. I gave her the clothes and told her I’d be outside the door.
“Thanks.” She said in a shaky voice. As I closed the door behind me and leaned against it. I began to wonder. How did she even get hurt in the first place.
“Mel...What happened?” I asked her in a small voice, still behind the door.
“I...I didn’t think he would hurt me. I g-guess I didn’t think he had it in him” She said slowly.
“He? As in the headmaster? How did he do this to you?!” I said slamming my fist onto the door angrily.
Suddenly, the door swung open. She slowly clutched my shirt for support.
“I have to call Eric, you are losing too much blood. Solar stay here” I said then ran out of my house. Anger has taken over me, wait not anger. Pure range.
“Keep it together. Control your emotions” I mumbled to myself. Though why? He never laid a hand on her. What did she say. What did he do that ‘cause her to bleed? When I reached Doctor Eric’s house I knocked on the door, what seemed like all my might. Suddenly Eric opened the door.
“Yes?” He said, looking at me weirdly.
“I-I need you to come with me” I said out of breath, throwing my hands on my knees.
“Let me get my things.”
After a while Eric and I were running back to my house. I pretty much punched my door open. When Eric saw Melanie he went straight into action.
“How did this happen?” Eric asked
I looked at Mel. I don’t think this is much of a matter to simply blurt out.
“Right now that doesn't matter! She lost a lot of blood!” I yelled
Eric is pretty young. Twenty six, a year younger than headmaster. He is the one who can erase our memories as well. He’s another mystery. He’s been inside the walls all his life, but knows everything on how to take care of us. It’s like his knowledge for health just came from thin air. I never really knew what happened to his family. I knew he had a girlfriend, but one day everything change it was like she didn’t want to be part of his life anymore. They barely spoke it was like they never met. Last I heard the woman got married. She actually left the walls. It’s like she’s not part of the Lowes anymore I think she comes sometimes to see her family but, she still has the chance to leave.
I saw Eric trying to make Melanie take something.
“What is that gonna do?” I asked
“Just put her to sleep for a little while, I have to stitch her up I rather not make her face more pain than she already has.”
Mel slowly swallowed the purple looking liquid. After a little while I saw her eyes gently close. Her whole body was still, yet her chest slowly went up and down telling me she was breathing. About twenty minutes later Mel was all stitched up.
“Make sure you tell Headmaster. Also make sure she is careful with that side.”
“I can take care of her!” I slowly picked Mel up and put her in the shower. I got a sponge to wash off the blood.
“Want to tell me now how she got hurt now?”
“If you're wondering. It wasn’t me. Obviously, I ran to you for help.”
“I can tell it wasn’t you. I’m not an idiot. By the the way you ran to my house, the way you are trying to control your range, which to me seems like you’re having an increasing amount of trouble doing.”
I picked Melanie up from the bath tub. She looked lifeless the way her body fell. I can’t focus on him. I have to calm down.
“How long will she be asleep?” I asked
“For a couple hours. Maybe till morning. You should really get here dried up. She’ll get sick if she stays wet.”
I stood silent for a moment. “How do you suppose I do that?”
“Just call someone. I have to go.” Eric said, gathering his things and leaving.

“So she turns to a panda? That’s really weird.” Solar said.
